The New Milton 'Melee' - Sunday 17th March 2024

With the the new New Forest League about to start and the Lymington Lobsters due to participate in the league for the first time, the long established club in New Milton kindly invited Lymington to participate in the new season opener - the New Milton Melee.

A great day was had by all and 11 members from Lymington turned up to participate in the competition to win a selection of chocolate prizes. Amazingly,  Ron Humphreys and Rosie Scott of Lymington walked away with 2nd and 4th prizes, respectively...not bad for our first venture into competitive Petanque.

Jonathon Ruddle of New Milton sent over some photos which shows how competitive the players were taking the game.

The Summer Social 2023

The theme for the Summer Social this year was Italy and all things Italian. Red, green and white were the colours for the day and a number of members decided to dress up for the occasion including a couple of elderly venetian gondoliers!!

The weather was not quite as warm as last year but Valpolichella wine, Prosecco fizz and Moretti beers was flowing freely to help down a superb range of foods provided by members including biscotti, grissini bread sticks, a variety of cheeses including dolcelatte, sun dried tomato's and pesto sauce and olives.

To cap off a fine day and to help the digestion, a series of games were played including the popular (if not a bit messy), 'Hit the Egg' competition, the 'Between the Lines' and the 'High Jump'. All good practice exercises for the Petanque player [ see below the purpose and objectives of the games ]

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP
Summer 2023

The first Open Championship for members was held this summer with all games played on the Emsworth Road terrain. The final was played on 22nd August between Ruth Cornwall and John White and it turned out to be a classic game. John took an early lead and appeared to be heading for a convincing win but Ruth maintained her concentration and applied pressure at key stages in the game and eventually ran out winner scoring 13 - 11.
An excellent match watched by an appreciative crowd.
